The 2nd Congress: The Vision of Health – Diagnosis and Future – Medical Foresight

For the second time, the Public Health Committee together with the National Institute of Public Health – National Institute of Hygiene, organized a Plenary Session entitled ‘The health care system in Poland 1990-2040’ that opened the 2^nd Congress ‘The Vision of Health – Diagnosis and Future – Medical Foresight’ on October 2, 2018 at the Sheraton Hotel in Warsaw.

Prominent experts were invited to the panel, including:

• Dr Mukesh Chawla – international expert in innovations in the field of insurance, business, economic, institutional solutions and insurance in health systems from the perspective of health safety and public good, World Bank, Washington, USA
• Dr Grzegorz Juszczyk – Director of the NIZP-PZH
• Michał Kleiber – former Minister of Science and President of the Polish Academy of Sciences, Member of the European Academy of Sciences and Arts, Chairman of the Forecasting Committee of the Polish Academy of Sciences
• Krzysztof Opolski – Head of the Chair of Banking, Finance and Accounting at the University of Warsaw
• Dr Bogdan Wojtyniak – Deputy Director of NIZPH-PZH
• Dr Adam Kozierkiewicz – expert in health economics, JASPERS consultant, European Investment Bank, former employee of the Institute of Public Health of the Jagiellonian University Medical College in Krakow
• Dr Marek Zuber – economist, financial market analyst, expert and financial advisor

The session started with showing the ‘big picture’ of health in Poland and the prospects for the development of health care systems in Europe. Short- and medium-term macroeconomic conditions which will certainly influence politicians’ decisions about possible changes and investments in health were discussed. During the discussion, the experts replied, inter alia, to the question: For which segments of the health system in Poland should the government allocate new funds from the 6% GDP on health act and is an increase in the health insurance contribution inevitable?
